Mechanical Fitter – Water & Wastewater Infrastructure

The Opportunity

Working across wastewater pump stations and associated infrastructure, you will be responsible for maintaining and improving the reliability and performance of critical mechanical assets.

You'll enjoy a varied role involving workshop activities, field service work, planned maintenance, installations, breakdown response and project support.

No two days are the same.

What You'll Be Doing

Installation and Commissioning

  • Install pumps, motors, valves, pipelines and associated mechanical equipment.

  • Assist with commissioning activities and performance testing.

  • Carry out equipment alignment and coupling installations.

  • Verify installations meet engineering specifications and quality standards.

Maintenance and Repairs

  • Perform preventative, predictive and corrective maintenance.

  • Inspect and service pumps, bearings, seals, valves, gearboxes and rotating equipment.

  • Diagnose faults and complete breakdown repairs.

  • Participate in reliability improvement initiatives and root cause investigations.

Workshop and Assembly

  • Read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.

  • Assemble custom mechanical equipment from drawings and CAD documentation.

  • Undertake minor fabrication activities including drilling, cutting, grinding and welding.

  • Assist with Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT).

Operational Support

  • Support planned shutdowns and emergency response activities.

  • Respond to equipment alarms and urgent call-outs when required.

  • Operate company vehicles and equipment safely and responsibly.

  • Contribute ideas to improve asset reliability and efficiency.

Safety and Compliance

  • Work in accordance with Workplace Health and Safety requirements.

  • Follow all environmental and quality procedures.

  • Participate in toolbox talks and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and reports.

What We're Looking For

Essential Requirements

  • Mechanical Fitter trade qualification (Certificate III Engineering – Mechanical Trade or equivalent recognised Australian qualification).

  • Current unrestricted Australian Driver Licence.

  • Construction Industry White Card.

  • Minimum 2–3 years' experience in an industrial environment.

  • Demonstrated experience working with pumps, motors, valves and rotating equipment.

  • Strong fault-finding and troubleshooting skills.

  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.

  • Commitment to safety, quality and teamwork.

  • Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.

Highly Regarded

  • Experience within water or wastewater treatment facilities.

  • Confined Space Entry certification.

  • Working at Heights certification.

  • First Aid qualification.

  • High Risk Work Licence (Forklift, Dogging, Rigging or EWP).

  • Welding and fabrication experience.

  • Exposure to automation equipment, sensors and mechanical assembly activities.
